How to estimate the ROI of your Single Sign-On project

Besides the security enhancements that you achieve with the implementation of Single Sign-On in your IT landscape, one important factor is always to estimate the Return-On-Invest that you get with this implementation.

Especially, if you plan to invest in a product solution like SAP NetWeaver Single Sign-On, it’s good to have an idea about possible cost savings. Calculations have to consider the number of helpdesk calls / helpdesk effort related to password resets and of course the loss of productivity for people waiting to get access to systems.

SAP NetWeaver Single Sign-On 2.0 Ramp-Up to start

SAP has announced the Recruitment for Ramp-Up of SAP NetWeaver Single Sign-On 2.0. Ramp-Up is supposed to start soon, the General Availability is currently planned for Q4/2013.

SAP NetWeaver Single Sign-On 2.0 offers various feature enhancements and a tighter integration into the SAP NetWeaver environment. Three different SSO technologies are supported:

  • Release 2.0 supports Kerberos for logging on to SAP systems with a Web browser (SPNEGO for ABAP)

SAP NetWeaver Identity Management now supports DB2 database

SAP recently announced that SAP NetWeaver Identity Management now also supports IBM’s DB2 in addition to Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.

The following software and configuration is required: SAP NetWeaver Identity Management Identity Center 7.2 SP6 or later, and DB2 10.1 FP1 for Linux, UNIX and Windows.

Customers using DB2 as their strategic database for SAP environments are now able to extend their operating procedures to their SAP IdM system.

SAP NetWeaver Identity Management and companywide IdM implementations

Many customers already have a Non-SAP identity management solution in place to manage their companywide identities. If not driven by factors like End-Of-Maintenance, they rarely see a need to change this solution and implement alternative solutions like SAP NetWeaver Identity Management.

But – as SAP NW IdM offers very powerful identity management capabilities in SAP landscapes (e.g. replacement of the Central User Administration (CUA)), quite a number of customers use SAP NW IdM for User Management and Role Provisioning in these landscapes in coexistence with the central IdM solution.

Control code vulnerability affects almost all Android smartphones

The recently reported control code vulnerability for Samsung smartphones seems to affect most smartphones and UMTS tablets running earlier versions of Android than the current version (4.1.x “Jelly Bean”, which is installed on only 1.2% of all active Android devices)!
